How to send log files from ApexSQL tools

Application log files contain important processing, diagnostic and trace information that help ApexSQL engineer’s isolate and duplicate problems reported by users.

  1. Sending logs automatically and directly from the application.

A function to “Send logs” is available in the resource menu of every ApexSQL application, as shown below for an ApexSQL standalone tool and an SSMS add-in, respectively.

    SSMS Add-in

Clicking “Send logs” will open up an email to “support@apexsql.com”, with the ApexSQL tool’s log file attached. Additional information, screen shots etc. that help provide additional context may be included as well.

  2. Sending logs manually

If for some reason user is unable to open the ApexSQL tool or just wants to send the logs manually, these steps can be followed:

    1. Locate the log file:

      For stand-alone tools:

      [WINDOWS DRIVE]:\Users\YOUR-USER\AppData\Local\ApexSQL\[APEXSQL TOOL NAME]\LOG\

      For VS add-ins:

      [WINDOWS DRIVE]:\Users\YOUR-USER\AppData\Local\ApexSQL\[APEXSQL TOOL NAME]\

      For SSMS add-ins:

      [WINDOWS DRIVE]:\Users\YOUR-USER\AppData\Local\ApexSQL\[APEXSQL TOOL NAME]\

Note: The AppData folder is a system hidden folder, so in order to see it, users will need to enable “Show hidden files, folders and drives” option in windows explorer, or to manually type the path.

    2. 2. Send the files with any additional information that could benefit your particular use case to ApexSQL Support.
